Nigerian comedian and activist Mr Macaroni has criticised the country’s political environment, saying it could damage the reputation of people who were once widely respected.
The entertainer said he was not encouraged by what he sees in Nigeria’s political space and questioned whether he would ever want to venture into politics.
According to him, some Nigerians who were once admired entered politics only to have their legacies damaged by their actions and the system they became part of.

Mr Macaroni also spoke about the reaction of Nigerians to social and economic challenges, saying people often complain about difficult conditions but quickly move on without sustained pressure for change.

He cited the controversy surrounding fuel prices as an example, noting that Nigerians could protest and complain for a few days before eventually returning to their normal lives.
The activist also criticised the popular saying that anyone who can survive in Nigeria can survive anywhere, saying Nigerians should not have to take pride in enduring difficult living conditions.
He further expressed concern that people who speak out on behalf of Nigerians can eventually face backlash from the same people they represent.
He said: “I’m not happy about how things have been and if you keep talking, it seems like you’re the troublesome person. The same Nigerians that you speak for turn against you. I look at Nigeria and I don’t think I want to get into the political space because it seems like the political space in Nigeria corrupts the very best of us.

“Men that you have looked up to and respected, they got into politics and ruined their legacy. I look at the political space in Nigeria and I’m not thrilled. Even we, the people, the average Nigerian moves on. Okay, look at fuel price now, the wahala wey everybody dey shout. Everybody will just talk, one, two days, next thing, e don go, we don move on. Nigerians take pride in telling you, ah, if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. It’s not something to brag about.”
